What are the benefits for producers?
Producers gain financial stability, can focus on improving coffee quality, and receive support from Makicuna in the form of resources, training, and technical assistance.
How are prices determined?
Prices are established at the beginning of the partnership through an agreement between the producer, importer (Makicuna), and roaster. These prices are designed to be fair and beneficial for all parties involved.
The initial pricing is based on the producer’s regular asking price, which reflects the quality of the coffee. A three-year price projection is created to provide a guideline for all parties. This projection serves as a reference and may be adjusted in response to significant market price fluctuations.
How is the cup quality (score) determined?
Cup quality is assessed by averaging three scores: one from the producer, one from the importer, and one from the roaster.
Alternatively, the producer or importer can choose to use the score given by the importer.
Is the contract legally binding?
The contract is non-binding but represents a strong commitment to building a reliable and mutually beneficial relationship.
How do I select a producer to partner with?
Makicuna has a list of the producers involved in the PP. From those producers we can send samples to the roasters. Roasters choose their preferred producer based on the quality of the coffee and the producer’s background.

What happens if either party cannot fulfill the terms of the agreement?
